Please give it a moment to load as this is a flash file.

Here is my final project for my Facial Expression class. I wanted a subtle mix of joy and curiosity.

Dito, the character depicted in this image, is from my in-progress comic book, PERPENDICULAR. He is a mute young man who has found a clear interest in butterflies for their renewing characteristics. He thinks that the caterpillar's transformation into a butterfly, something grotesque turning into something beautiful, is something that all humans need to go through before reaching enlightenment.

So I drew him with a bunch of butterflies in his hair.

Originally I wanted this to be a picture of him with his hair kind of pixellating into butterflies, but when I couldn't get the effect right, this happened. The painting of Dito himself was rendered entirely in Corel Painter X, save for a preliminary, traditional sketch.

On the other hand, the rollover image came as an afterthought. I wanted to prove that I could draw the human skull with no reference, and evidently I drew Dito's face too long. Poo.

Anyhow, the skull was rendered in PS and colored in Corel Painter X.

The flash animation was created in FLASH. Roll your mouse over it to see the skull, sillyheads.

I had a lot of fun with this image and I hope you all love it as much as I do.

Whoa, I really like the first picture! The nose is a bit off on the second, though; the it should be more of a cavity than a plate with holes in it.

Unused space. Oooooh!
:icontemporary-glitch:
Yeeah...the shading for the nose didn't go through as well as I would have liked it to. I might edit it later...the second picture was also supposed to be a lot more full, but since this is due tomorrow morning, I had to rush a bit :P

 Thanks for the crit and I'm glad you like it!

What a brilliant idea! I think you did the butterfly effect in his hair just fine <3 <3 This is a gorgeous, well-rendered piece  I hope you do really well in your final! ^o^
Ooh~ I'm interested in PERPENDICULAR now *v* I hope to hear more from it~

Well shoot.

That is badass. His expression is adorabibbbllleeee. I love it. Hair's probably my favorite part, and I love how colorful the butterflies are.

This is gawjus. Flash is such a douche to use but this looks great. <:D

That's still pretty amazing, Lauren. And just plain pretty ^^ *tackles him* I always love seeing your boys. They make me wobbly. In most areas, anyway *cough* >.> Very nicely done, in my opinion  ^^ It's definitely an interesting mix :) And Dito's always gorgeous. I wish I had more monies to grab the Bubblegum print of him...

Really love how you've done the butterflies and his hair, such enviously vibrant colours! ;0; <3

The shape of the ends of his hair remind me of the tail of a treble clef and I find that awesome

The rollover image is really neat too; I ended up rolling my cursor over it a few times intrigued by the transition haha; love how you've used desaturated colours and a moth(?) for the second image, so I perceive this piece to be something of a transition/connection between life/living and death/decay

just my thoughts haha; awesome work! ;u;
